The SKYCITY Stampede have won back-to-back Birgel Cups for the second time in their history, with a dominant 7-1 win over the Canterbury Red Devils in Queenstown Friday night.

The Red Devils opened the scoring, with Ciaran Long putting the puck into an open net when Stampede netminder Adrian Volpe came out of his crease to challenge for the puck, and the Devils held this lead through the first period.

The Stampede evened the score with a goal from Mike McRae in the second period, and pulled ahead on a goal from Braden Lee off a bang-bang play.

The third period saw the Stampede extend their lead and dominate, scoring five more goals, before piling onto the ice at the final buzzer to celebrate their Birgel Cup win.
