Ice Fernz Take Fifth

The Ice Fernz lost their last game of the tournament against Mexico 5-2, but avoided relegation after Turkey lost to Spain.  The team goal for their final game was to beat Mexico for the best-possible finish of fourth place, but the Fernz fell behind in the first period, although strong defensive work kept the score within 1 or 2 goals for the majority of the game. The regulation loss saw the Fernz fall to fifth place overall in the 2016 tournament.

The Best Player of this game for the Ice Fernz was Daisy Hopkins, while Anjali Thakker took the overall honours as Best Player for the Team, earning an IIHF Tissot watch.

Australia had a great tournament and surprisingly took home the gold medal after a tight 3-2 win over Iceland. Congratulations to Australia on their win, and to the Ice Fernz for improving throughout what was a difficult tournament.
