Suspension Revised by Tribunal (Updated)

NZIHL June 1, 2019  1386

Last week the Thunder import Connor McCallum was given a 3 game suspension for spearing. The Dunedin Thunder management decided to appeal this suspension and it went to tribunal. The decision was overruled and changed to a 1 game suspension, which was served in the game against the SKYCITY Stampede on 31 May 2019.

An appeal was received from the Dunedin Thunder, a tribunal held and they voted to overturn the increased suspension. McCallum was to serve the existing one-game suspension. That game was game 8, on the 31st May 2019

On that same day, an appeal was lodged against the tribunals decision. Because there wasn’t enough time to  hold another tribunal before that nights game, he was allowed to play.

Another tribunal was held on 5th June 2019, and that panel agreed that McCallums actions had been reckless, and voted to return the suspension to 3 games.

These two games will be served in games 16 and 17, on the 14th and 15th June 2019, against the Canterbury Red Devils.
